Dr. Onika Popo-James graduated from Lincoln University in 1992 and earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine (now Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine) in 2005. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York, in 2008. She is board-certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and has been practicing in Georgia since 2009.\nDr. Popo-James is a member of the Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association and the American Osteopathic Association. She has served as a volunteer admissions interviewer at the Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM) and currently serves as a Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulation preceptor for third-year medical students from GA-PCOM.\nShe believes that although two patients may have the same diagnosis, their treatment should reflect not only the disease process but also the patient’s individual beliefs and values. Patient education is a priority for her, ensuring each patient plays an active role in their own care. Dr. Popo-James treats her patients with the same care and compassion she would extend to a cherished family member.\nIn addition to patient care, Dr. Popo-James is the Medical Director and Lab Director at Family Health Clinic, where she has served since 2016. She has witnessed the clinic’s growth with the addition of offices in Zebulon and Locust Grove, and currently sees patients in both the McDonough and Locust Grove locations.\nDr. Popo-James is an active member of St. Paul AME Church in Covington, Georgia, where she leads the Youth and Adult Dance Ministries and the Health Ministry. She also serves as a Stewardess, a Steward, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. \nA proud mother of two beautiful daughters, she has been happily married to Arthur James for 26 years.\nMost recently, Dr. Popo-James fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a member of the esteemed Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is a proud Line Sister of The Genesis: 80 Flames of Fortitude, initiated through the Covington Area Alumnae Chapter in Spring 2025. She looks forward to giving back even more to her community, now alongside her Sorors.
